Opposing the commercialization of evidence of German Crimes committed during World War II.
As the Institute of National Remembrance, we express our strong objection to the auctioning of documents and items connected with the victims of German perpetrators of the Third Reich. Such practices provoke widespread indignation and represent a morally unacceptable commercialization of the tragedy of the Holocaust.
These kinds of artefacts are priceless evidence of history and of the suffering of millions of people. They cannot be treated as merchandise or collectibles. Their place is in museums, archives, and institutions of remembrance, where they should serve education and the commemoration of the victims, not sit in private display cases.
We call on the Felzmann Auction House in Neuss to stop organizing similar auctions and to handle artefacts of such deep meaning responsibly.
The memory of the victims must not become an object of trade.
