A meeting dedicated to Sergiusz Piasecki took place on 3 July 2024 at the IPN's Lech Kaczynski Central History Point in Warsaw. During the event, the President of the Institute of National Remembrance Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D., presented the Reipublicae Memoriae Meritum medal to the LTW Publishing House, which published all of Sergiusz Piasecki's works in the Polish language. Recently the IPN Publishing House has launched the English version of The Diary of a Red Army Officer by Piasecki.
As the IPN Archive Director Marzena Kruk pointed out, the LTW Publishing House was recognized for dissemination of Poland's recent history and its contribution to preserving the memory of important events and figures connected with our past. The medal was received by Maria and Marek Jastrzębski, founders of LTW.
Ms. Maria and Mr. Marek Jastrzębski are custodians of the memory of free Poles who followed various paths to independence in the 20th century. By publishing the legacy of so many great people, they are strengthening freedom and identity of our independent state, said the IPN President during the ceremony.
It was 25 years ago that The Diary of a Red Army Officer by Piasecki was first published by the LTW. During the event, the writer's memorabilia were presented. Piasecki's personal items, including handwriting, scripts of plays, correspondence, photographs, as well as drawings, sketches and objects of everyday use were lent to the IPN Archive by the writer's granddaughter, Ewa Tomaszewicz, as part of the Archive Full of Remembrance project.
Sergiusz Piasecki went a long way, from a prodigal son, to a hero of the Polish Underground State during World War II. After 1945, he was one of the most prominent Polish émigré writers. When Poland was enslaved he remained free, emphasized Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D.
