- I would like you to have the conviction that you are part of the great Polish nation, which survived 123 years of partition, which survived the German occupation, 45 years of Soviet enslavement, and even then, there were always those who were ready to work hard for their freedom,” said IPN President Karol Nawrocki during a visit to Bolesławiec.
In Bolesławiec, the IPN President Karol Nawrocki met with local youth - students of the School of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. The visit took place during the ceremony of unveiling plaques commemorating the Student Committee for Social Resistance, which was active in Bolesławiec.
During the event, the IPN President recalled the establishment of “Solidarity”- a great social movement in the 1980s, which also united young people and students in the hope that after more than forty years Poland would regain its freedom, independence and sovereignty. People dreamt that Poland would become part of the civilization to which it had belonged for centuries, that is, the Latin, Western, Christian civilization. However, the imposition of Martial Law on 13 December 1981 destroyed those dreams for nearly a decade. Despite this, in 1982 there were those who said “no” and were ready to join the youth struggle for the most important values and freedom:
- Today we do not have to, like the Lviv Eaglets or the Grey Ranks, die for Poland. All we have to do is love Poland, take care of it, remember our heroes, adhere to the values that we Poles hold dear - devotion to God, to honor, to the Fatherland.
During the event the IPN representatives paid tribute to our heroes and laid flowers at the Solidarity Monument. They also lit candles at the plaque commemorating the victims of the Smolensk catastrophe, paying homage to those who died on 10 April 2010,while serving their Fatherland.
