On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 the IPN "Trails of Hope. The Odyssey of Freedom" exhibition was presented in the Battle of Britain Bunker museum in Uxbridge, west London on 2 May 2025.
The IPN delegation with Deputy President Karol Polejowski and Office of International Cooperation Director Agnieszka Jędrzak outlined Poland's role in WW2 and showed the audience, which included Mayor of Hillingdon Colleen Sullivan, around the exhibit.
The exhibition presented here today is part of a 5-year international remembrance project entitled the 'Trails of Hope. The Odyssey of Freedom,' initiated by the IPN President Karol Nawrocki. Since its inauguration, it has been presented on five continents, including such countries as the United States, Canada, Argentina, and South Africa (...) The project is also closely related to the Museum permanent exhibition, which portrays, among others, the history of the Polish Air Force after the invasion of Poland by the Germans and Soviets in 1939, and its cooperation with the RAF,
said the IPN Deputy Head Karol Polejowski in former No. 11 Group Fighter Command HQ.
The IPN flagship "Trails of Hope, the Odyssey of Freedom” project aims to commemorate the military effort of the Polish Armed Forces during WW2 and the stories of civilians evacuated from the USSR with the Anders Army. Launched in March 2022, it has already visited dozens of cultural institutions worldwide. Every exhibit is tailored for the location: in addition to the general panels, it comprises local history.
The IPN representatives also celebrated the Polish Diaspora Day with UK Poles in an art competition award ceremony and screening of two history documentaries (on Polish destroyer Błyskawica and Pole Władysław Gnyś, the first Allied fighter pilot to shoot down a German plane.)
The IPN Deputy President Prof. Karol Polejowski and Office of International Cooperation Head Agnieszka Jędrzak also honored Polish airmen at the Polish War Memorial in Northolt, UK. They were accompanied by the founder of Polish Sue Iwona Golińska, who co-organized the exhibition opening.
