On 4–6 June 2025, the conference “Independence Emigration in the USA in the 1980s” took place in Summersville, West Virginia. The event was held under the honorary patronage of Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D., President of the Institute of National Remembrance.

The conference was organized by former activists of anti-communist organizations who, after leaving Poland, rebuilt their lives in the United States and undertook efforts to support Solidarity in its struggle to restore Poland’s full freedom and independence.

The event also brought together historians who professionally study the events of that era, as well as individuals who helped shape them. The Institute of National Remembrance was represented at the conference by the Director of the IPN Archive Marzena Kruk and the Director of the IPN Historical Research Office Sebastian Pilarski.
