This was yet another visit of Korean guests at the IPN. This time they had the opportunity to learn more about the organization and functioning of the Institute of National Remembrance and the work and tasks of  particular offices. It was emphasized that from its onset the IPN had been the mentoring institution, especially in the field of transitional justice.

During the meeting, the Deputy Director of the IPN’s Office of International Cooperation Mateusz Marek, Ph.D., presented a film about the Institute's mission and told the guests about our tasks and activities in an international context. In addition, he presented the scope of work carried out by various substantive offices and the future directions of cooperation with international partners, including the flagship project “Trails of Hope. The Odyssey of Freedom” devoted to the fate of Polish soldiers fighting against totalitarianisms during World War II.

Prosecutor Robert Janicki presented a historical outline of the Chief Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation. He further discussed the scope of the Commission's work, the most important statistics and an outline of the specifics of the Commission's investigations. He talked, among other things, about the difficulties Prosecutors encounter while collecting evidence of the crimes of totalitarian regimes.

The Korean delegation also met with  Sylwia Szyc, Ph.D., a researcher from the IPN Historical Research Office who outlined the latest activities of the office, including research on Polish-Korean relations in the 20th century.

The meeting was organized by the IPN Office of International Cooperation.

For over twenty-five years, the IPN has served as an essential institution that works towards promoting justice for victims of totalitarian regimes and has offered its mentoring experience in this area during numerous visits of representatives from all over the world.
