Honouring the Warsaw Uprising Insurgents, Warsaw 31 July 2025

On 31 July 2025, ceremonies were held in Krasiński Square in Warsaw, on the eve of the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the uprising, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the President-elect of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, the President of the Institute of National Remembrance.

In the evening, a solemn Mass was celebrated at the Warsaw Uprising Monument in Krasiński Square in Warsaw, commemorating the fallen insurgents, their commanders, and the civilian population of Warsaw. Following the Mass, the Roll Call of the Fallen was read out, and wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the President-elect of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, President of the Institute of National Remembrance.

In his address, President Andrzej Duda emphasized that:

"The Warsaw Uprising was one of the most important moments in our history. Undoubtedly, it was a moment of both pride and suffering. It was a moment which was so noble, so important. And above all, it was so absolutely necessary."

The President of the Republic of Poland also addressed the veterans gathered at the ceremony:

"Thank you for the effort to fight for a sovereign, independent Poland – both with weapons in hand and through education. Eternal and unwavering respect to the Warsaw Uprising fighters, heroes of our freedom, for the Poland we have today. For these generations of soldiers and scouts, so many of whom are also here. And also for the fact that the greatest leaders in the world speak of this great military effort of our grandparents and parents with pride and admiration. Thank you for this from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this extraordinary pride in your fight, in your heroism, in your stance, in you."

The liturgy, led by the Military Bishop, Bishop Wiesław Lechowicz, was attended by, among others, veterans of the uprising, representatives of state and local government authorities, and Warsaw residents. The Institute of National Remembrance was represented by IPN Deputy Presidents Prof. Karol Polejowski and Mateusz Szpytma, Ph.D.
