On 7 September 2025, the Polish National Shrine on the Kahlenberg in Vienna hosted the commemoration of the 342nd anniversary of the Battle of Vienna, as well as the 42nd anniversary of the visit of the Holy Father, Saint John Paul II, to the shrine.

The Institute of National Remembrance was represented by Adam Siwek, Director of the Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom, and Mateusz Marek, Deputy Director of the Office for International Cooperation.

The commemorative events began with the laying of wreaths at the parish cemetery on the Kahlenberg, at the graves of Poles who fell during the Battle of Vienna in 1683. Subsequently, participants proceeded to the shrine, where the IPN delegation laid a wreath beneath the plaque honoring King Jan III Sobieski.

The central point of the commemoration was a solemn Holy Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Adrian Galbas. In his homily, the Archbishop emphasized the significance of Christianity with regard to the history of Europe.

A Roll Call of Remembrance was also conducted.

The ceremony ended with the unveiling and blessing of a plaque dedicated to Blessed Marco d’Aviano – the Italian friar who, prior to the battle, celebrated Holy Mass on the Kahlenberg, assisted by King Jan III Sobieski.
