Representatives of the Search and Identification Office of the Institute of National Remembrance Magdalena Krajewska, Ph.D. and Krzysztof Mikołajczyk took part in the international conference “Uniting efforts and enhancing cooperation for addressing the issue of missing persons”. The forum was held in Baku on 9–11 October 2025. Polish experts shared their unique knowledge on the search and identification of victims of totalitarian regimes, emphasizing the role of advanced technologies and international cooperation in the process.
The conference in Baku, organized for the third time by the State Commission of Azerbaijan for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, is a key global platform for dialogue on humanitarian challenges. The event was attended by delegates from 43 countries and representatives of organizations operating in this field, such as the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). During the opening of the conference a letter on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev was read out.
The IPN has participated in this initiative for the first time. The mission of the IPN includes searching for, exhuming, and identifying victims of totalitarian regimes. The IPN's efforts to restore the memory and identity of those who were condemned to oblivion are a practical example of the implementation of the principles of historical truth and humanitarianism, which was discussed at the conference in Baku.
