On 13 December, a delegation from the Institute of National Remembrance participated in a ceremonial Christmas wafer meeting held at RAF Ingham – the Polish Bomber Squadron Memorial Centre. The Centre is a community organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Polish 300 and 305 Bomber Squadrons at the locations where they were stationed during the Second World War, namely RAF Ingham (Cammeringham) and RAF Faldingworth in eastern England.
During the event, a representative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester read out a letter from Agnieszka Jędrzak, Undersecretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, conveying Christmas greetings to the participants on behalf of President Karol Nawrocki. The IPN representatives also paid tribute to the fallen Polish airmen who operated from RAF Ingham at the local Garden of Remembrance.
Earlier, representatives of the Institute honoured fallen Polish heroes at the memorial cross located at the Polish Airmen’s Cemetery in Newark-on-Trent, one of the largest Polish burial sites in the United Kingdom and the largest Polish aviation cemetery in the world. The cemetery is the final resting place of nearly 400 Polish servicemen and includes the original graves of General Władysław Sikorski as well as the first three Presidents of the Republic of Poland in exile. The delegation subsequently visited the Church of All Saints in Faldingworth, where Polish airmen and their families funded a commemorative stained-glass window, as well as the memorial located at the end of the runway of the former RAF Faldingworth airbase.
The RAF Ingham Heritage Centre and the Polish Bomber Squadrons Centre established there - housed in the original barracks of the former airbase - is a British organization dedicated to commemorating the soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces who fought alongside the Allies during the Second World War. The Institute of National Remembrance is now establishing cooperation with this institution.
