At the headquarters of the IPN, the Institute’s Deputy President, Prof. Karol Polejowski, met with His Excellency Luca Franchetti Pardo, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Poland. The Ambassador was accompanied by Miriam Peluffo and Vincenzo Spinelli, both First Secretaries at the Italian Embassy.

Their conversation covered a range of important topics, including efforts to locate Italian soldiers who lost their lives on Polish soil and the care of the Italian war cemetery in Warsaw. It is a resting place for World War I servicemen who died as prisoners of the German Empire, as well as World War II soldiers killed on the battlefield or murdered in the camps run by the German Reich.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the Institute's ongoing initiatives, including those related to the international educational and commemorative project “Trails of Hope: The Odyssey of Freedom”.

Plans for new memorials which would honour the shared Polish-Italian history and the relations between both countries in the 20th century were also discussed.
