On 10 September 2026, ten scholarship holders from Argentina, accompanied by Chargé d’affaires of the Argentine Embassy Cristian Sokolowski, visited the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). The guests learned about the activities of the IPN and visited the IPN Archives at 21 Kłobucka Street, the Central History Point, and the Museum of Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People’s Republic.
The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the Argentine guests to the work of the Institute of National Remembrance, its role in documenting and disseminating knowledge about Poland’s recent history, and the importance of preserving historical records and testimonies for future generations.
The first part of the visit took place at the IPN Archives. The programme began with a welcome and a screening of the film “The IPN Mission”, presenting the Institute’s principal areas of activity.
The guests were then introduced to the tasks of the IPN and its Archives, with particular emphasis on the “Archive Full of Remembrance” project. Director of the IPN Archives Marzena Kruk presented the project using as an example the collection of the Moszoro family which settled in Argentina. The presentation demonstrated how the IPN acquires, preserves, processes and makes available private archives and family memorabilia, which constitute valuable sources of knowledge about Poland’s history and the experiences of its citizens.
The guests also viewed selected sections of the “The Journey and the Heritage” exhibition in the main hall. The programme continued with a visit to the conservation workshop, where specialists presented methods used to preserve and protect historical documents and other archival materials. The delegation also visited the digitisation workshop and learned about modern technologies used by the IPN to safeguard and make historical heritage accessible to the public.
The archival repositories were another important part of the visit. The guests visited the repository of military records as well as the card-index repository. The materials preserved there demonstrate the diversity of the IPN’s archival holdings and document both historical events and the lives of individuals.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Central History Point at 107 Marszałkowska Street. The guests learned about the IPN’s educational and outreach activities and visited the IPN Bookshop and the New Technologies Zone, which presents innovative ways of using modern technology in history education.
The visit also included a tour of the tenth floor, offering a panoramic view of Warsaw. The programme provided an opportunity for an informal exchange of views and discussion about Polish history and the activities of the Institute of National Remembrance.
The final part of the programme was a visit to the Museum of Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People’s Republic at 37 Rakowiecka Street. The delegation toured the historic premises of the former prison and learned about the fate of people persecuted by the communist authorities, including members of Poland’s anti-communist underground.
The visit of the Argentine scholarship holders to the IPN provided an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the Institute’s work – from archival research, conservation and digitisation, through the preservation and public dissemination of historical sources, to historical education and the commemoration of victims of repression.
The meeting also contributed to international dialogue on the history of the 20th century and to the exchange of experience in preserving and promoting historical heritage.
