On 23 September 2026, the Central History Point named after President Lech Kaczyński in Warsaw welcomed a six-member delegation from Mindelunden, a Danish institution commemorating the victims of the German occupation of Denmark. The study visit provided an opportunity to exchange experiences in the fields of historical education, memory policy, the work of memorial sites, and the commemoration of the victims of the Second World War.
The delegation was welcomed by Anna Putkiewicz, Director of the Central History Point, who showed the guests around the facility and presented its activities, educational programme, and the use of modern technologies to promote historical knowledge. The representatives of Mindelunden were also introduced to the possibilities offered by new technologies for presenting historical heritage and engaging diverse audiences.
The next part of the visit was a meeting with representatives of selected IPN offices, including the Office for the Commemoration of the Struggle and Martyrdom, the Historical Research Office, the National Education Office, the New Technologies Office, the History Points Office, and the IPN Archives. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the Institute’s broad range of activities related to preserving and promoting historical memory, documenting the past, searching for and identifying victims, and caring for sites of remembrance.
IPN representatives presented the activities of their respective units in the areas of education, commemoration, and passing historical knowledge on to future generations. Discussions also focused on the IPN’s involvement in caring for Polish memorial sites abroad and its cooperation with local institutions and organisations involved in the preservation of historical heritage.
An important part of the discussion concerned changes in the way memorial sites are created and operated, as well as the development of contemporary memory culture in Poland. In this context, the participants also discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine on the place of the Second World War and the memory of its victims in contemporary public space.
The visit of the Mindelunden delegation to the Central History Point provided an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and good practices between institutions in Poland and Denmark involved in preserving historical memory. The meeting was organised by the IPN Office for International Cooperation in cooperation with the IPN Central History Point.
