The Institute’s delegation visits the Lithuanian Special Archives in Vilnius - November 4, 2009

On November 4, 2009, the Institute’s delegation including Director General Jan Baster, Director of Office for the Preservation and Dissemination of Archival Records - dr. Zbigniew Nawrocki, the Head of the Branch Office for the Preservation and Dissemination of Archival Records in Wroclaw - Tomasz Balbus and the historian Piotr Niwiński, Ph. D. (Gdańsk University) attended a meeting with the Director of the Lithuanian Special Archives - Ovidijus Leveris, Director General of the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania - Teresa Birute Burauskaite and Director of the Center’s research department - dr. Arunas Bubnysem.

The following issues have been discussed:

1. The principles of cooperation between Poland and Lithuania in terms of the documentation exchange of the Communist secret police (NKVD / KGB and UB / SB) regarding the repression of Polish and Lithuanian citizens in the years 1944-1990;

2. The acquisitions by the Institute of the copies of the operational and penal acts regarding the arrests, sentences and murders performed by the Soviets on the Home Army soldiers of the Vilnius-Nowogrod District and the activists of the Vilnius Branch Delegacy of the Government of the Republic of Poland;

3. The principles of preparing joint source publications on the military and political activities of the Polish and Lithuanian independence underground.

On November 20, 2009, Teresa Birute Burauskaite visited Jan Baster in Warsaw to sign an agreement on trilateral cooperation between the Institute of National Remembrance, the Lithuanian Special Archives and the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania.
