On August 16, 2010 in Washington, Zofia Korbońska died at the age of 95. She was a soldier of the Home Army, Polonia activist in America, a widow of Stefan Korboński. For several dozen of years she had accompanied him in life and struggle for a free Poland.
Zofia fought in the Warsaw Rising, was one of the organizers of clandestine radio station of the Directorate of Civil Resistance. Between 1945-1947 she worked with her husband who was the president of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) for the city of Warsaw, the largest political group in opposition to the communist authorities, and the member of Sejm on behalf of PSL.
Because of communist repressions both emigrated to the USA. Zofia began working at the Voice of America. She was a reporter, editor, announcer and the author's of her own programs. Together with her husband she actively participated in the life of Polish political emigration.
After her husband's death in 1989 she founded Stefan Korbonski’s Foundation, which built the monument for the Colonel Ryszard Kukliński in the “Powązki” cemetery and published books by S. Korboński.
She was a great friend of the Institute of National Remembrance. A few months ago in an open letter she objected to the changes made in the act on the IPN.
