On 15 June 2011 the Polish Senate gave its consent to the appointment of dr. Łukasz Kamiński to the position of the President of the IPN. 79 senators voted for, 3 were against and one abstained from voting.

On 10 June 2011 the Polish Sejm has appointed Łukasz Kamiński, director of the Institute’s Public Education Office, the President of the Institute of National Remembrance. 372 deputies voted in favour of Łukasz Kamiński, 8 were against, 8 abstained from voting, SLD did not take part in the voting. The President of IPN is appointed for a 5-year term by the Sejm, with the consent of the Senate, by a simple majority.
