A new educational website has been launched by the Institute of National Remembrance on another anniversary of Poznań June 1956. Please visit www.june56.ipn.gov.pl
Poznań June, the first revolt of the workers in communist Poland, was an event of international importance, the first of the so-called "Polish months". The website prepared by the IPN’s Branch Office in Poznań in cooperation with the headquarters in Warsaw, contains greatly interesting materials documenting the events of June. It is best to first view the movie on the homepage, which tells the story in a nutshell – it is rich in photographs and shows the scenes, which took place in Poznań in 1956. The website also contains unique audio materials: dramas, broadcasts of Radio Free Europe and Mercury Radio. There are also accounts of the victims of Poznań June and repression against the rebellious city. In the gallery there is vast photographic documentation of the events, and in the bibliography section one can view the list of publications on the year 1956 and read materials in PDF format. Unique photographs of Jan Kołodziejski document the struggle for remembrance of June: the construction of a monument and demonstrations in the period of martial law.
