On 29 June 2011 at the National Museum of History and Culture of the Republic of Belarus (Karl Marx Street 12, Minsk) a presentation of the album "Rotamaster Witold Pilecki 1901-1948" and opening of the exhibition "Rotamaster Witold Pilecki - volunteer to Auschwitz" took place. Historians of the Warsaw Branch of the IPN’s Public Education Office took part in the meeting: Dr. Wojciech Muszyński and Jacek Pawłowicz, author of the album.
The exhibition will be open until 24 July 2011.
The album features photographs and memorabilia from the collection of Witold Pilecki’s family. In addition to the website www.en.pilecki.ipn.gov.pl, the exhibition and scientific session in the Polish Senate, the album is yet another initiative to commemorate the heroism of the "volunteer to Auschwitz".
The exhibition was prepared by Jacek Jaśkiewicz from the Fighting Solidarity Association. It presents Witold Pilecki’s life - fighting in defense of the homeland in 1919 and 1920, participation in the defensive war of 1939 and in the underground Polish Secret Army (later Home Army), a daring operation of entering Auschwitz and the underground activities after the war, which ended tragically (as a result of the communist judicial murder) in 1948.
