Exhibition „Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk – Church, Government, Social Resistance”– Lviv, 5 October – 9 December, 2011

Institute of National Remembrance, Rzeszów Branch and the Higher Theological Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lviv of the Latin Rite, organized an exhibition entitled „Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk – Church, Government, Social Resistance („Arcybiskup Ignacy Tokarczuk – Kościół, władza, opór społeczny”), dedicated to the life and work of Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk and the history of the Przemyśl diocese, which he was in charge of in the years 1966 – 1989.

The opening ceremony took place at the Theological Seminary on October 5, and the exhibition itself will be open until December 9, 2011. During the opening ceremony, repersentative of Rzeszów Branch of IPN presented a lecture dedicated to father Ignacy Tokarczuk.

The exhibition contains documents and photographs from the private archive of Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk, which are depicting his life, priesthood and scientific work. Among these are the photographs from the ceremonial entry (ingres) to the Przemyśl cathedral on February 6, 1966, which document the beginning of the essential stage in the life and work of Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk – the time during which he served the Church and the Nation as the Bishop of the Przemyśl diocese. The exhibition also presents, among others, the photographs and documents procured by the archives of the Institute of National Remembrance, Rzeszów Branch, illustrating the policy enforced by the communist government towards the religion and Catholic Church. These materials portray the scale of “interest” with which the officers of the IV Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs have put on Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk. They also consist of reports and other documents created by the IV Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as parts of registers of “secret collaborators and political-operational contacts”, which were functioning in the vicinity of father Ignacy Tokarczuk.
