The main purpose of the visit was to participate in a seminar regarding Polish experience in the field of transitional justice, which was organized by the Office of Prime Minister of Tunisia. Polish experience in this field was the starting point to discuss the emerging Tunisian Truth and Dignity Commission, which will deal with coming to terms with the past. Institute of National Remembrance will support the formation of the Commission, conducting training for its members. The meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office attracted significant interest. It was attended by two deputy ministers of the Tunisian government and many officials.
Conduct trainings on records management by the employees of IPN was the subject of a meeting in the Ministry of Interior. Dr. Kaminski met there with the Director of International Cooperation and representatives of the police and law enforcement, who are responsible for political archives.
There was also a courtesy meeting with Samir Dilou, Minister of Human Rights and Transitional Justice. The main topic of the conversation was the Polish support for the democratic processes in Tunisia. Then Dr. Kamiński met with coworkers of the Minister.
During the visit, the President of the IPN also met with Iwo Byczewski, the Polish ambassador to Tunesia, with whom he discussed the continuation of Polish involvement in the political transition process in Tunisia, including the support of IPN.
During his visit to Tunis Dr. Kamiński also gave an interview to the independent Radio Kalima, where he spoke about the Polish experience of the political transition and the role of the Institute of National Remembrance in Poland.
