IPN at the 13th Conference of Polish Teachers and Parent Committees - New York, 23-26 May 2014

On 23-26 May 2014 the 13th Conference of Polish Teachers and Parent Committees took place, during which IPN's exhibition "From war to victory 1939-1989" was presented. It is about a special half-century in the history of Poland. At that time Poland was deprived of the independence and freedom - first as a result of German and Soviet aggression and occupation during the World War II and later because of the post-war Communist regime. The main theme of the exhibition is Polish fight for freedom, expressed in a form of armed struggle and political activity. Expressive photographs show Polish soldiers on various World War II fronts and the phenomenon of the Polish Underground State in the occupied country. They show the social resistance and work of the democratic opposition during the Communist regime, which culminated in the emergence of a mass movement of "Solidarity" and the overthrow of the Communist dictatorship in 1989. The exhibition and its accompanying catalog have been prepared in Polish and English language versions.

During the conference Dr. Andrzej Zawistowski, Director of the IPN's Public Education Office gave a lecture on "A dozen events in Polish history...". Also, the current educational offer was presented and special workshops were conducted on using the game "ZnajZnak" (Know the Sign) for educational purposes.
