The session entitled "Reflections on Auschwitz - remembering the past, looking to the future" was attended by parliamentarians from Poland, Israel, Czech Republic, Greece, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Italy, Germany, Spain and Hungary. Polish delegation was headed by Ewa Kopacz, Marshall of the Sejm. Knesset was represented by nearly half of the deputies headed by the chairman Yuli Edelstein. Avner Shalev, director of the Yad Vashem The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority also attended the event.
The session was held within the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, held on the anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz by the Red Army (27 January 1945).
The inter-parliamentary session was preceded by a ceremony at the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The ceremony was attended by witnesses to history - former prisoners, Polish officials and guests from all over the world.
