On 25-28 August 2014, Mrs. Grace Kim, a representative of the Korean War Abductees Family Union (KWAFU), visited the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw.
KWAFU is representing families of victims who were abducted by the Communist Democratic People's Republic of Korea during the Korean War. It is estimated that between 1950-1953 around 96 thousand people were abducted. The fate of many of them remains unknown. The victims included a large part of the South-Korean elite of that time.
During her stay in Warsaw, Mrs. Kim visited the IPN archives and the Public Education Office. She was interviewed by Polish press and TV stations and met the Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Poland.
In the IPN headquarters the guest met several IPN representatives, among them Professor Krzysztof Szwagrzyk, Deputy Director Radosław Peterman and the prosecutor Robert Kopydłowski. The KWAFU representative learned about the process of identifying places of burial of the Communist regime victims, the vetting process in Poland, the activities of the Chief Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation and the Katyń massacre.
