"Days of the Uprising - Warsaw 1944" is a symbolic exposition. It refers to the concepts and symbols that characterize the Warsaw Uprising in a particularly full and expressive manner. Individual panels refer to the heroic struggle of the insurgents and the collective effort of the capital residents showing immense solidarity, heroism and self-sacrifice. The exhibit also tells the stories of the relief of Home Army units, the hope of support from the Western Allies, which turned out to be dim, the wasted effort of the Berling Army soldiers killed in the Czerniakow Beachhead, the betrayal of the"ally of our allies" and the agony of waiting for the city and its defenders. The visitors will see large canvases, arranged with the use of space and light, and photographic panels depicting the tragedy of the Home Army soldiers and Warsaw residents. The exhibition is accompanied by Polish and German documentary footage of, as well as some information and education section designed especially for the younger audience. It was the intention of the organizers was convey the atmosphere, which was accompanied by a dramatic months of the Warsaw Uprising.
It was prepared by the Warsaw Branch of the IPN Public Education Office in cooperation with the Gdansk Branch of Public Education Office and the Warsaw Rising Museum.
The exhibition was opened on 26 September in the presence of Mayor of Kiel, Consul General in Hamburg and Head of the Department of the Historical Education of the Warsaw Branch of IPN.
The exhibition will be open until 24 October 2014 at the House of German Trade Unions in Kiel.
