Action AB and the massacre in Katyn were the most evident examples of repressive actions carried out in 1939-1941 on the Polish territory under German and Soviet occupation. During the Katyn Operation about 22 thousand people were murdered. It is estimated that in the course of Action AB Germans shot approx. 6.5 thousand Poles. Together with the Poles murdered in 1939 in similar operations on the territories annexed to the Reich, it would give about 50 thousand people. The vast majority of victims of both crimes were the Polish intellectual elite.
