Conference "Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy" - Warsaw, 22-24 October 2015

Sergey Kovalev, who came at the invitation of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, but also Garry Kasparov, Ales Bialiatski and Lilia Shevtsova are just some of the participants of this year's conference „Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy”, which was held in Warsaw on 22-24 October. The conference was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of National Remembrance. As every year the IPN organized a panel discussion about reappraisal of the past. This year the panel explored the „forbidden truth" about the victims of dictatorships.

The following persons participated in the panel „Victims Demand the Truth”: Dr. Eva Elwira Klonowski, renowned forensic anthropologist, dealing with identifications of victims of the war in former Yugoslavia, including Srebrnica, Oknam Yi from the Korean War Abductees Family Union – in 1950–1953 North Korea abducted tens of thousands of Koreans from the south, Emilio Silva from the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory – the initiator of exhumation of victims of the Spanish Civil War. Chair of the discussion was President of the IPN Dr. Łukasz Kamiński.

The aim of the annual conference „Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy” is to monitor democracy in the world and the creation of recommendations, mainly for international organizations involved in the promotion of democratic transformation.
