On 23 September 2025, a solemn funeral ceremony was held in Vilnius for Edward Borkowski and five other soldiers of the Home Army from the unit commanded by Sergiusz Zyndram-Kościałkowski, known by his nom de guerre “Fakir.”

On 17 September 2025, on the 86th anniversary of the Soviet’s invasion of Poland, at the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army in Warsaw, a funeral ceremony took place for the remains of the victims of the Katyn Massacre, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.
In consequence of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between the Third Reich and the Soviet Union, on September 17th 1939 the Red Army crossed the borders of Poland thus beginning the occupation of the eastern territories of the Second Republic of Poland, lasting almost two years.
